On call at any hour

Backups and blockages. City crews check the city main first; if it is clear, the blockage is on the private line and a plumber is needed.

Before you call about a backup

City crews check the city main first. If the city line is clear, the blockage is on the private line that serves your building, which the property owner owns and is responsible for — that is a call for a plumber. Owners are responsible for the cost of determining or relieving a blockage from the building foundation out to the city connection.

Non-emergency concerns

Haverhill's 311 call centre puts you through to a trained operator who can log a request and route it to the right department.

Something being dumped into a storm drain

Storm drains discharge straight to local brooks and the Merrimack with no treatment, so anything poured into one ends up in the water. Illicit discharges are investigated by the city's stormwater program.
